Facebook tweaks news feed to give friends and family higher priority

Facebook introduced News Feed in 2006, which shows users what's happening in their social circles. This includes status updates, photos, videos, links, app activity and likes from people, Pages and groups that you follow on Facebook.

Now Facebook is making a big change to the News Feed that will show you more posts from your friends and family. Over the coming weeks weeks Facebook is tweaking its News Feed algorithm prioritizing posts from your family and friends.

At first, you'll be seeing post from people you've chosen as 'see first' and then posts that Facebook thinks you'll be interested to react, like or share. These will include a post you mostly interact with.

As for the pages you are following, they will be ranked based on their content, and your interaction with them. So if you interact or like posts on the pages that you follow, you'll help them rank up to your news feed. With the new algorithms, Facebook assures that they will not be biased against stories for its users to see.
