WhatsApp for Android will soon let you quote messages while replying
WhatsApp for Android will soon get a new feature that will let you quote messages in replies. The new feature has been spotted in the latest Android beta app v2.16.118.
To quote a message, you will have to long press the message you want to quote, and tap on reply. On tapping the reply button the message will appear as a quote and you can add a reply to that. The receiver will see the quoted message greyed with the reply below it. Both one-on-one chats and group chats support this feature. The quote feature works with text, photos and videos.
This feature is more useful during group chat when an user want to address a specific person while replying, and the other members in the group will also be able to know which messages are being referred to.
To download the latest Android beta of WhatsApp, you will have to sign up for Google Play beta testing program. However, note that currently the feature doesn't work on all Android devices and might require a server-side change.
WhatsApp is also working on bringing GIF support to its messaging app as well. The feature is already being tested on WhatsApp beta for iOS.
