Jet black iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus can get easily scratched, says Apple

With the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, Apple introduced a new black color option that comes in two finishes – a matte black and a glossy Jet Black. The new black colors, replaces the space grey color options, and joins the the usual silver, gold and rose gold variants.

Of the two black finishes, the jet black has the most attractive and striking look with a glossy finish. Moreover, Apple offers only 128GB and 256GB storage options for the jet black model.

But if you were considering to buy the jet black iPhone, you might want to reconsider, as Apple says, the jet black model may easily get scratched while use. The company notes that the jet black's high shine "may show fine micro-abrasions with use", which means it could have scratches when not handled carefully. Apple suggests that a phone case should fix the problem to keep the iPhone 7/ 7 Plus free form scratches.

Here's what the footnote said on Apple's website regarding the Jet Black finish
The high-gloss finish of the jet black iPhone 7 is achieved through a precision nine-step anodization and polishing process. Its surface is equally as hard as other anodized Apple products; however, its high shine may show fine micro-abrasions with use. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use one of the many cases available to protect your iPhone.

If you're considering to buy the Jet Black finish and want to keep it scratch free, it is recommended to use a case. If that's holding you back, and you still want black color iPhone, you can go for the matte black model.
