LG V20 with secondary display, Android Nougat gets official

Earlier this year at MWC 2016, LG introduced its flagship the G5 with an innovative modular design. Today the company has officially unveiled its second flagship of the year dubbed V20 at an event in San Francisco. Similar to its predecessor, the V10, the V20 also features a second display above the main screen. The V20 is the first phone to ship with Android 7.0 Nougat and to pack 32-bit HiFi Quad DAC audio chip.

Design-wise, the LG V20 flaunts a light weight aluminum body with Silicone Polycarbonate (Si-PCP) material on top, that LG claims can reduce shocks by up to 20 percent. It has even passed military grade tests to withstand fall of up to 1.2 meter, making it sturdy.

Coming to the specs, the LG V20 has a 5.7-inch .(2560×1440 pixels) Quad HD IPS Quantum display and a 2.1-inch (160 x 1040 pixels). It is powered by Snapdragon 820 processor, backed by Adreno 530 GPU and 4GB RAM. On-board storage is 64GB, which can be further expanded via microSD card (up to 2TB).

Similar to LG G5, the V20 also gets dual rear cameras, a 16MP unit with f/1.8 aperture and OIS, and an 8MP 135-degree wide angle unit with f/2.4 aperture, accompanied by dual-tone LED flash, and features hybrid auto focus, using a combination of laser auto-focus, phase detection auto-focus and contrast auto-focus. For selfies and video calling there's 5-megapixel front camera with f/1.9 aperture.

The V20's rear camera is capable of capturing up to 4K videos and boasts advanced video recording capabilities. The phone comes with a feature called Steady Record 2.0, which is based on Qualcomm's EIS 3.0 (electronic image stabilization) that allows users to record a video without any shakes. It also packs digital image stabilization to improve video quality post-processing. It has Hi-Fi Video Recording and uses Low Cut Filter (LCF) that removes unwanted background noise and Limiter (LMT) that sets recording distance.

The V20 is the world's first phone to pack 32-bit HiFi Quad DAC (digital to analog converter) to deliver crisp and clear sound by reducing ambient noise by up to 50 percent when using headphone. LG has also teamed up with B&O Play to bundle B&O Play earphones in select market.

In addition to Android Nougat, the V20 is also the first phone to feature Google's In App feature that helps users find content from built-in apps including contacts, emails, text messages and photos and user-installed apps.

Connectivity duties on V20 is handled by 4G LTE (Cat. 12 LTE), dual-band WiFi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS, NFC and USB Type-C. There's also a fingerprint scanner on the back for added security. It is fueled by 3200mAh battery with support for Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 technology.

The LG V20 comes in Titan, Silver and Pink colors. Currently there's no word regarding pricing, but LG said that the phone will on sale in South Korea this month followed by other market. LG's first V series smartphone the V10 never made it to the Indian market, but the company has confirmed plans to launch the V20 in the country, within a month after the unveiling.
