Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 653, 626, 427 mid-range chips


Qualcomm has introduced three new low and mid range chipsets, the Snaprdragon 653, 626 and 427 targeted at entry-level and mid-range devices.

The highest performance of the new chips is the Snapdragon 653 SoC, which offers 10 percent improved performance than its predecessor Snapdragon 652 processor. The octa-core processor has 4 x ARM Cortex A72 cores and 4 x A53 cores, Adreno 510 GPU, display resolution support up to 2560 x 1600 pixels and cameras with up to 21MP support. The new chip can also handle twice as much RAM as its predecessor going from 4GB to 8GB.

The Snapdragon 626 will replace the Snapdragon 625 SoC, offering 10 percent improved performance. It features eight ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores, Adreno 506 graphics, support for up to 1920 x 1200 screen resolution and up to 24MP cameras. Qualcomm's signal boosting technology TruSignal is on board.

The Snapdragon 427 SoC belongs to the low-end 400 series replacing the existing Snapdragon 425 chip and is aimed at entry-level low cost devices. The quad-core processor features 4 x ARM Cortex A53 CPU cores, Adreno 308 GPU, TruSignal and supports display resolutions up to 1280 x 800 pixels and cameras up to 16MP.

All three new processor have Intergrated Snapdragon X9 LTE modem for 50 percent faster upload speeds than the X8 LTE modem. It can X9 LTE modems offers download speeds of up to 300Mbps and upload speeds of up to 150Mbps. They also support dual cameras and Quick Charge 3.0, which is a fast charging technology.

Qualcomm says the new 600 series chips: Snapdragon 653 and 626 SoCs will be available later this year, while the Snapdragon 427 chip is coming in early 2017.
