Xiaomi has no plans to launch Mi Note 2, Mi MIX to India

Xiaomi on Tuesday finally unveiled the Mi Note 2 flagship with curved display, alongside the futuristic concept smartphone Mi Mix in China, which will be available to buy in China next month.

Apart from curved display, high end specs and reasonable price tag, the Mi Note 2 also has an international variant with support for 37 global networks, and we were led to believe the Mi Note 2 to have a world-wide release including India. However a new report may disappoint many Xiaomi India fans who were expecting the Mi Note 2 to land in India.

Xiaomi's global VP Hugo Barra in an interaction with media post the launch of Mi Note 2, said the Xiaomi currently has no plans to launch the Mi Note 2. This also extends to Mi MIX as well.

Barra said Xiaomi currently wants to launch only one flagship phone which is Mi 5 in the country per year. It's worth mentioning that the Mi Note 2's predecessor, the Mi Note didn't launch in the country. He explained that currently Xiaomi doesn't have the capability to market two or more flagship in the country, but reassured that this could change next year. He also revealed that Xiaomi has no plans to launch Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus in India as well. However, he did confirm that Xiaomi's Mi Home experince center will launch in India.

This comes as a  surprise, since Xiaomi has a strong presence in India, and considering the spec sheet and reasonable price of Mi Note 2, Mi MIX, Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus, they could have many takers.

The company is already witnessing record-breaking sales of its smartphone in the country. Xiaomi recently announced that it sold more than 1 million smartphone in just 18 days and aims to acquire the largest smartphone market share in India within three-five years. But shying away from crucial product launches such as Mi Note 2 and Mi 5s will not do any good to their position.
