Reliance Jio crosses 50 million subscriber mark in 83 days

Reliance Jio launched its 4G services for its employees in December last year, and kicked off commercial operation on September 5. Now in just 83 days since its roll out, the company has reportedly crossed 50 million subscribers mark, to emerge as the largest broadband operator in the country

If true, Reliance Jio has become the fastest growing telecom operator in the world to achieve this feat. For reference, Airtel took 12 years to cross 50 million subscribers, while Vodafone and Idea took 13 years each. It appears that Relaince Jio's free Welcome Offer till 31 December have done the deed.

As per COAI's monthly GSM mobile subscirbers' report, Jio subscriber base has already reached one-fifth that of Airtel, which had 262.67 million users in October. Last month Jio created a world record by adding 16 million subscriber base with the first 25 days since launch beating WhatsApp, Facebook and Skype. However, Jio was able to add 17 to 24 million users in the next 45 days.

It's worth mentioning that a recent report claimed that Jio's subscirber growth rate decelerated by 50 percent. Moreover, it is not clear if all the 50 million Jio subscribers will continue using Jio services after the Welcome Offer ends.

With the latest milestone it appears that Reliance Jio is certainly on its way to “create a world record by acquiring 100 million customers in the shortest possible time”
