HTC will reportedly introduce a mobile VR headset later this year

HTC forayed into the the VR market with the $799 Vive VR headset. The headset had to be connected to the PC and the wearer was not able to move around freely and had to be careful not to trip over wires.

HTC will soon have a solution for that, as it is working on a mobile VR headset, which can be used on the go, HTC CFO and president of global sales Chia-Lin Chang told Cnet.

HTC's mobile VR headset will work with company's latest flagship, U Ultra, but it will not be a "phone slapped onto a headset". HTC points out that its upcoming VR headset will not be another spin on Samsing's Gear VR or Google's DayDream view, but will be a different thing.

"We have a good plan in terms of combining mobility with VR," said Chang. "Vive is very top end, and in the coming months you'll see our plans in terms of mobility and VR, and it's not a phone slapped onto a headset," he said. "It'd be a different thing."

Currently not much details are known of HTC's upcoming mobile VR headset, but Chang promised that device will be unveiled by the end of this year.
