Oppo to introduce 5X smartphone camera tech at MWC

Oppo has just confirmed it will be attending this year's MWC in Barcelona. The Chinese smartphone maker has announced that it will unveil a new 5x smartphone photography technology at the trade show on February 27.

The event invite has the tag line "Go 5x further" and "So close you can feel it", indicating that Oppo's 5x smartphone technology is related to optical zoom feature, which is used on Apple's iPhone 7 Plus and Asus' ZenFone Zoom line-up.

Oppo is calling the new camera technology '5x project' and says it is the next "breakthrough smartphone technology". It also said that the new camera technology will give users unprecedented ability to capture high detailed images.

Commenting on the new camera technology technology, Sky Li, VP, OPPO, MD of International Mobile Business & President of OPPO India, said: OPPO’s relentless pursuit of perfection without compromise has given birth to a remarkable technological breakthrough that will change how the world perceives smartphone photography. This remarkable achievement is the result of an extensive, year-long R&D process, combined with OPPO’s unparalleled expertise in smartphone imaging technology.

Oppo's main focus has been on camera photography for quite some time. In 2016, Oppo mainly focused on the smartphone's selfie camera, and launched the 'Selfie Expert' F-series (F1, F1s, F1s Plus) with 16MP front camera boasting Oppo's beutification software called Beautify 4.0
