TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 Android Wear 2.0 smartwatch goes official


Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer has officially announced its second generation Connected smartwatch, the Connected Modular 45. The watch maker says it is the first luxury connected watch bearing the Swiss Made label (designed, developed and assembled in Switzerland by TAG Heuer), and was made in partnership with Intel and Google.

As the name suggests, the Connected Modular 45 has a modular design, that lets the wearer to swap the connected module with an Haute Horlogerie mechanical module ― 3 hands caliber 5 or Chronograph Tourbillon. The watch will also be available in a wide range of materials, color and combinations. Beside the two swappable modules, the watch will also have interchangeable lugs, strap and buckle.


TAG Heuer says the modularity options add up to a 56 different design (a selection of 11 standard models are systematically offered in store + 45 others on request). Some of the options include rubber straps (black, blue, red, white, yellow, green, orange, and electric blue), calfskin/rubber combo straps (black, grey, and light brown), ceramic straps, and titanium bracelets. The lugs will come in titanium, titanium with diamonds, titanium with 18K rose gold, and titanium with a matte black ceramic finish (with or without diamonds). Buckles will be available in PVD or titanium.



The modularity also extends to the watch's software with dual customization,offering 30 watch dials, inspired by historical pieces. ― "Colored white, black, light grey, anthracite grey, chocolate brown, navy blue or gold, with sunray finish, skeleton dial, 3 hands, GMT, a chronograph with 1, 2, or 3 counters, plus a date and day window, these dials are interchangeable with a single swipe of the finger." There's also a app called TAG Heuer Studio dial configuration, which lets you create your own dial.

As for the specs, the Connected Modular 45 operates on Android Wear 2.0 and is powered by Intel Atom Z34xx series processor. It sports 1.39-inch AMOLED touch display with a layer of scratch-resistant sapphire cover glass. The watch is water resistant for up to 50 meters, and is equipped with 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, microphone, WiFi and Bluetooth. It also has GPS for tracking journeys and sporting performance, NFC for payment and Android Pay support. A 410mAh battery keeps the lights on, which promises 25 hours of run time.

The TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 starts at $1,650 (Rs. 1,08,000) and will roll out to US, UK, Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, Malaysia and Singapore. It will be available starting today via TAG Heuer boutiques, from a selection of retailers, or the brand's online webstore.

There's also a Deluxe Box set including a connected watch (in grade 5 titanium with titanium lugs and brown natural leather strap), complete with the prestigious Heuer-02T Tourbillion mechanical module, plus an additional black rubber strap. It will carry a price tag of $17,000 (Rs. 11,20,000).

TAG Heuer says that the connected and mechanical modules are backed by two year warranty, while the accessories (strap, buckle, lugs, charger) are covered by a one-year warranty. It also said the the $1500 TAG Heuer Connected smartwatch will get Android Wear 2.0 starting today.
