Leaked HTC U photo shows off design

After launching the Snapdragon 821 powered flagship U Ultra (and mid-range U Play), HTC is reportedly working on a more powerful flagship phone powered by Snapdragon 835. The phone is codenamed Ocean, and will be launched as HTC U soon. Specifications and some features of HTC U have already leaked thanks to Evan Blass and now the same source has shared the first image of the phone, which shows off the design.

Design-wise HTC looks a lot like U Ultra, sporting a reflective glass back, and includes a fingerprint scanner below the display. But the camera unit at the back is circular, instead of the regular square shape and is accompanied by dual-LED flash.

The source had previously reported that HTC U will feature an innovative input method called Edge Sense. The sensors of this feature will be embedded into the phone's frame, and will allow users to use touch gestures to perform different actions.

As far as specs are concerned, as per rumors, the HTC U will feature 5.5-inch WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) Gorilla Glass 5 display, 4GB RAM, 64GB/128GB storage, 12MP Sony IMX362 rear camera, 16MP Sony IMX351 selfie camera and 3000mAh battery. The phone will also offer enhanced camera capabilities with advanced HDR setting to provide better photo quality including HDR+, Smart Video Zoom, 3D Audio and Hi-Res recording functions.

HTC U will run Android Nougat 7.1 with Sense 9 UI on top and other notable features include Multimedia BoomSound audio, four microphones, dual-speakers, USB Type-C port and fingerprint scanner. The phone will also lack the headphone port, in favor of USB Type-C for audio-output.

The HTC U is expected to be unveiled in April, and will get a global release in early May.
