Twitter's new Lite app loads quickly on slow connections

Twitter has launched a lite version of its platform called Twitter Lite, designed to minimize data usage and load quickly on slower connectivity. It is aimed at emerging markets like Latin America, Africa and Asia including India.

The Twitter Lite app weighs less than 1MB and works via web browser instead of a standalone app. This is same as what Facebook offers with its Lite version, which was introduced back in 2015.

Twitter claims that the "Lite" version offers 30 percent faster launch times as well as quicker navigation throughout Twitter. It has all the basic features Twitter offers like timeline, Tweets, Direct Messages, trends, profiles, media uploads, notification and more. The Lite version of Twitter also has data saver mode, which reduces your mobile data usage up to 70 percent. To save data Twitter Lite offers preview of images and videos, and then you can choose which media you want to fully load.

It also offer additional features in Google Chrome or other browser on Android devices like push notifications, offline support and much more. You can also add Twiiter Lite to device's home screen, so you can access it quickly with just one tap. It supports 42 languages including six Indic languages like Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Tamil, Gujarati and Marathi.

Twitter Lite can be accessed by visiting mobile.twitter.com on your smartphone or tablet. The app will be useful for those who are on slow mobile networks, or lack storage on their mobile devices.
