Apple India now provides warranties for iPhones purchased abroad

Apple India has announced that it will provide one-year international warranty on unlocked iPhones. What this means is if you purchase an iPhone from outside India (say the U.S), Apple will still honor its international warranty, and in case something went wrong with your iPhone, you can get it repaired or services in India itself.

Previously, Apple provided international  warranty on several products such as Macbook, Apple TV, Apple Watch and others excluding iPhones, but this is the first time iPhone is getting this kind of warranty.

However, the international warranty is applicable on the factory unlocked iPhones and not carrier-locked iPhone (for instance from the U.S). In addition if a carrier-locked iPhone has been unlocked using unofficial means, it will not be covered. Moreover, if you currently own a factory unlocked iPhone brought from abroad, and is still covered by warranty, the new International warranty will be applicable on it.

Apple's latest move comes a day before iPhone X pre-orders open in India. To remind you, the iPhone X India pricing starts at Rs. 89,000 for the 64GB variant and Rs. 1,02,000 for the 256 variant. However, in the U.S the price is comparatively cheaper at $999 (Rs. 65,000) including taxes for the 64GB model and $1,149 (Rs. 74,000) for the 256GB variant. Similarly, the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus prices are much lower when compared to Indian pricing.

But now you will be able to buy iPhones from outside India where they are priced lower, without worrying about after sale service in India.
