Apple to reportedly launch iPhone SE 2 in early 2018

Apple is reportedly working on the true successor of the compact iPhone SE with upgraded hardware. To remind you, the iPhone SE was unveiled last year in March, and was followed up with an slightly upgraded model with 128GB storage in March this year.

According to China's Economic Daily News, the new iPhone SE will be called iPhone SE 2 and will be launched in first quarter of 2018. The iPhone SE and the upgraded storage model was launched exactly on March 21 in 2016, and 2017 respectively, so a similar time frame can be expected for the launch of iPhone SE 2.

The report claims the iPhone SE 2 will be assembled exclusively by Taiwanese manufacturer Wistron at its manufacturing plant in Bengaluru. The current-gen iPhone SE selling in India is also being assembled by Wistron at the same factory.

It (iPhone SE) is powered by Apple's A9 chipset which is used in iPhone 6s/6s Plus and comes with 2GB RAM, Touch ID and 12MP rear camera.

Rumors has it that iPhone SE 2 will retain the same 4-inch display as its predecessor, but will get second-gen Touch ID fingerprint sensor, Apple's A10 Fusion chipset, iPhone 7's 12MP camera sensor, 5MP front facing camera and slightly larger 1700mAh batter. It will pack 2GB RAM and come with the option of 32GB/128GB storage.

Just like iPhone SE, the iPhone SE 2 will be targeted at emerging markets, but is rumored to be priced higher at $450 (Rs. 29,000). Do note that, there's no way to confirm the authenticity of the report, so take it with a pinch of salt.
