Xiaomi suspends future MIUI update for six devices, MIUI 9 will be their last

Xiaomi's latest Android based MIUI 9 ROM supports most of Xiaomi devices including outdated ones like Mi 2/2S, which was launched back in 2012 runing Android 4.1 Jelly Bean based MIUI 5. However, going forward Xioami has decided to suspend some of the older devices from the upgrade program.

Starting November 17, the Mi 2/2S, Mi 4i, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime and Mi Note will not receive any MIUI updates including MIUI Global Beta ROM (closed and public). MIUI Global Beta ROM 7.11.16 is the last beta update for the above devices. This also means that MIUI 9 will be the last stable ROM updates for these devices.

"MIUI performance is constantly improved to deliver a better and better system experience to all users. However, to ensure the best performance of MIUI, we have to make a tough decision of suspending the update of six devices after a long-time discussion and evaluation about the release time of devices, active users, hardware performance, etc," Xiaomi's MIUI team noted in the forum post.

As for the MIUI 9 roll out, the Mi 2/2S, Mi 4i, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime and Mi Note will be pushed over-the-air in December-January. For users of the these devices who have flashed to MIUI 9 Global Beta ROM, Xiaomi provide methods to flash to MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM

Currently a handful of device such as Mi Max 2, Redmi Note 4, Mi MIX 2, Redmi Y1 and a few other have already received MIUI 9 stable update.
