Samsung Galaxy Xcover 3 announced, 4.5-inch dust and water resistant phone


Samsung has announced a new device in its Xcover series called Galaxy Xcover 3.

The handset is equipped with standard MIL-STD compliant 810G that allows the phone to withstand a fall of up to 1.2 meters and is rated with IP67, making it dustproof and waterproof for up to 30 minutes in a meter of water.

Samsung has retained the physical keys like home, multitasking and back buttons enabling it to use in extereme temperatures. It comes with a Xcover key to turn on the flashlight or double tap to open the camera.

The Samsung Galaxy Xcover 3 features a 4.5-inch (800x480 pixels) WVGA display and is powered by 1.2GHz quad-core processor. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat that will be upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop in the near future.

It houses 1.5GB RAM, 8GB internal storage and microSD card slot. Camera features include 5-megapixel rear camera with underwater shooting mode support and a 2-megapixel front facing camera. It is backed by 2200mAh battery.

The handset is just 9.95m thin and weighs 154grams. Other features include LTE support, altimeter, compass, GPS, NFC and KNOX. 

Samsung will reveal more details on the Galaxy Xcover 3 on CeBIT next week.
