Xiaomi launches Redmi 2A with Leadcore CPU, also unveils Mi Note Cherry Pink Edition


Xiaomi on it's fifth anniversary event in Beijing, the company launched a more affordable variant for the Redmi 2 dubbed Redmi 2A. The company also unveiled the Cherry Pink Edition of the Mi Note targeted at women and 2GB variant of the Mi 4.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2A features 4.7-inch (1280x720 pixels) IPS display and is powered by 1.5GHz quad-core Leadcore L1860C processor, paired with Mali T628 dual-core GPU and 1GB RAM. It comes with 8GB of inbuilt storage that can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat with MIUI v6 on top.

By comparison the Redmi 2 was powered by a 64-bit 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 Cortex-A53 processor.

Camera features include 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, BSI Sensor, F/2.2 aperture, Omnivision sensor and 1080p video recoreding capabilities. There is also a 2-megapixel front facing camera for selfies with 720p HD video recording capabilities.

Connectivity options include Dual-SIM support. 4G LTE/3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. It is backed by 2200mAh battery.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2A comes in white, dark gray, bright yellow, light green and pink colore. It is priced at CNY 599 ($97 | Rs. 6,049) and at a special price CNY 499 ($80 | Rs. 5,000) and will be available in China starting April 8. 

Xiaomi also unveiled a Special edition of Mi Note for women in Cherry Pink. The company claims that the Cherry Pink Edition of Mi Note has been "tailored edition for modern ladies." The smartphone will come bundled with 5000mAh battery power bank.


The specifications of the Mi Note Pink Edition are similar to the Mi Note. It features 5.7-inch (1920x1080 pixels) IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection paired with 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 810 processor with Adreno 330 GPU and 3GB RAM.

The smartphone comes with 16GB internal storage and runs Android 4.4 KitKat with MIUI on top. Camera features include 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash and 4-megapixel front facing camera. Connectivity features include G LTE , WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4/5 GHz), WiFi Direct, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS. It is backed by 3000mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0 technology.

The Mi Note Cherry Pink Edition is priced at CNY 2499 ($400 | Rs. 25,000) and will go on sale on April 8.

In addition Xiaomi also unveiled the 2GB version of Mi 4. The specs are same as the standard version that packed 3GB RAM. The handset is priced at CNY 1699 ($274 | Rs. 16,000). The company also discounted the original Mi 4, which is now available in China for CNY 1,799 ($290 | Rs. 18,000).
