Xiaomi Redmi 2 launched in India for Rs. 6999, to go on sale from March 24


Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has launched the the successor to the Redmi 1s, the Redmi 2 in India. The handset was initially launched in China in January this year.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 features a 4.7-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) IPS display with  AGC Dragontrail Glass protection. It is powered by a 64-bit 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor (Cortex A-53) with Adreno 305 GPU.

It houses 1GB RAM, 8GB internal memory and microSD card slot (up to 32GB microSD card supported). It runs Android 4.4 KitKat with MIUI 6 UI on top.

There is also a limited edition variant that comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. It will be launched later this month. Xiaomi did not reveal the exact time frame and price.

Camera features include 8-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash, BSI sensor, f/2.2 aperture, Omnivision sensor and 1080p video recording. On the front there is a 2-megapixel camera.

Connectivity options include 4G LTE/3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and USB OTG. The device has support for TD-LTE 2300MHz (Band 40) and FDD-LTE 1800MHz (Band 3) for India. Both the SIM slots support 4G. 

The device is backed by 2200mAh battery. It will be available in pink, green, yellow, grey or white colors.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 is priced at Rs. 6,999 and will be available from March 24 through flash sale via Flipkart. The registration for the flash sale will begin today at 6pm. Xiaomi says between 30,000 and 50,000 units will be made available in the first flash sale.
