Sony Xperia A4 with 4.6-inch display goes official in Japan


Sony has announced a new smartphone for the Japanese market dubbed Xperia A4 (SO-04G). The company's mid-range offering is exclusive for NTT DoCoMo (Japan's Telecom operator). The Xperia A4 is likely to be launched as Xperia Z4 Compact for the international market.

The Xperia A4 features 4.6-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) Triluminos Display with X-Reality engine and is powered by 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor paired with 2GB RAM.

The smartphone comes with 16GB internal storage and microSD card slot which accepts up to 128GB cards. It runs Android 5.0 Lollipop with Sony's UI placed on top.

Camera features include 20.7-megapixel rear camera with Exmos RS sensor, HDR photos, videos and 1080p video recording capabilities. On the front there is a 2.2-megapixel camera with 720p video recording capabilities.


Connectivity features include Xi LTE, WiFi 820.11 a/b/g/n/ac , Bluetooth 4.0 with APT-X, GPS/ GLONASS, MH and NFC. The smartphone has IPX5,8 and IP6X rating for water and dust resistance. It is fueled by 2600mAh battery that comes with stamina mode. It measures 128x66x9.1mm, weighs 129 grams and comes in Grey, Pink, Blue and white colors.

The Sony Xperia A4 will be available from NTT Docomo and goes on sale in mid-June. There are no details on pricing yet. In addition, Sony will also be launching the Xperia Z4 (SO-03G) and Z4 Tablet (SO-05G) for NTT Docomo. The Z4 will go on sale in June while the Z4 tablet will arrive in July 2015 for Docomo users.
