Jolla Tablet goes up for pre order, will ship to India

Jolla is a Finland based company formed by ex-Nokia employees. The first product was a smartphone that was launched in 2013. Later the company announced their plans to launch a tablet. Being a small company with limited budget, they went to crowdfunding website Indiegogo to get funding for the tablet. At the website, the aim was to collect $380,000 (Rs. 2.5 crores). It took just 2 hours to reach the said target and within 48 hours the funding reached $1 million.

That being said, Jolla has now started taking pre-orders for the Jolla tablet in select markets including India. Jolla's tablet runs the company's proprietary Sailfish OS that is heavily based on gestures. The tablet should be compatible with Android apps as well.

Inside there is a 1.8GHz quad-core Intel Atom processor with 2GB RAM and 32GB/64GB expandable storage. It sports 7.85-inch QXGA (2048 x 1536) display at 330 ppi. For imaging there is 5-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front facing camera. It supports WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS connectivity, fueling the tablet is a 4450mAh battery. It runs Sailfish OS 2.0.

Jolla is ready to ship the tablet to India, U.S, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Norway, Switzerland and all EU countries.

The 32GB model of the tablet costs EUR 267 (Rs. 19,990) and the 64GB model is priced at EUR 299 (Rs.22,000). It is up for pre-orders directly from the company's website and the first batch will start shipping in late October.

“Jolla Tablet is a fresh newcomer to the tablet space and offers a superb, previously unseen user experience. Like all Jolla products, the Jolla Tablet is designed with functionality, minimalism and style in mind. In addition to the huge success of the crowdfunding campaign earlier this year, the Jolla Tablet has also won an award for Best Tablet of MWC in Mobile World Congress 2015, the most respected event in the mobile industry,” Jolla said in a press statement.
