Finland based Jolla, developer of Sailfish OS, has announced a new program for developers called Sailfish Community Device Program along with a limited edition Sailfish OS smartphone dubbed Jolla C. The Jolla C will be exclusively available to the members of the community and only 1,000 units will be offered.
The Jolla C comes with 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) display and is powered by 1.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 212 processor, backed by Adreno 306 GPU and 2GB RAM, along with 16GB on-board storage, which can be increased via microSD card (up to 32GB). For photography it includes 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and 2-megapixel front camera. Connectivity duties are handled by 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS connectivity. It is fueled by 2500mAh battery.
Note that the Jolla C is not designed for commercial use, instead is
targeted at developers to work with the Sailfish OS ahead of the launch.
Apart from the phone, Developers will also get access to exclusive live community sessions and invitations to community events.
The Jolla C is priced at 169 Euros ($190 | Rs. 12,660) and is expected to ship in July to all program participants.

Jolla is a Finland based company formed by ex-Nokia employees. The first product was a smartphone that was launched in 2013. Later the company announced their plans to launch a tablet. Being a small company with limited budget, they went to crowdfunding website Indiegogo to get funding for the tablet. At the website, the aim was to collect $380,000 (Rs. 2.5 crores). It took just 2 hours to reach the said target and within 48 hours the funding reached $1 million.
That being said, Jolla has now started taking pre-orders for the Jolla tablet in select markets including India. Jolla's tablet runs the company's proprietary Sailfish OS that is heavily based on gestures. The tablet should be compatible with Android apps as well.
Inside there is a 1.8GHz quad-core Intel Atom processor with 2GB RAM and 32GB/64GB expandable storage. It sports 7.85-inch QXGA (2048 x 1536) display at 330 ppi. For imaging there is 5-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front facing camera. It supports WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS connectivity, fueling the tablet is a 4450mAh battery. It runs Sailfish OS 2.0.
Jolla is ready to ship the tablet to India, U.S, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Norway, Switzerland and all EU countries.
The 32GB model of the tablet costs EUR 267 (Rs. 19,990) and the 64GB model is priced at EUR 299 (Rs.22,000). It is up for pre-orders directly from the company's website and the first batch will start shipping in late October.

Intex has partnered with Finland-based Jolla to become first licensing partner for the first Sailfish OS 2.0 powered smartphones. At MWC Shanghai, the two companies announced that the first Sailfish OS 2.0 will be utilized by Intex. Intex also showcased a prototype of first Sailfish 2.0 OS powered smartphone, but the design is not yet ready.
Jolla on its part said the the Sailfish should work on Qualcomm 200, 600, and 800 Snapdragon chips to span across various
price points, and will support 4G/ LTE. The operating system needs at least 2GB of RAM and a quad-core processor
to run smoothly. The minimum requirements are 1GB RAM and a dual-core
processor.
The first Sailfish OS 2.0 powered smartphone from Intex will be called Aqua Fish. It will be reportedly powered by Snapdragon 410 SoC and is likely to support 4G LTE connectivity. The handset packs 1GB RAM, 8GB expandable storage and 2300mAh battery and sports 4.7-inch 720p HD display. Aqua Fish is expected to be priced under Rs. 15,000. It is expected to launch later this year in November. The company also plans to sell the Aqua Fish globally, once things go smoothly in India.
The Jolla Sailfish 2.0 is a 64-bit OS comes with a revamped UI the offers faster user experience for multitasking. It also offers improved Android application compatibility and browsing experience. The new version brings smoother transitions throughout the OS and the overall stability and performance is improved.
For those unaware, Jolla is a Finnish company formed by ex-Nokia employees in 2011. The company is developer of Sailfish which is an independent OS based on MeeGo platform. The first Sailfish OS mobile product, the Jolla smartphone was introduced in November 2013. As for India, the first Jolla phone was launched in September last year and was exclusively available on Snapdeal for Rs. 16,499.
