Samsung's curvy flagship becomes bigger with the Galaxy S6 edge+, gets official
At its Galaxy Unpacked 2015 event in New York, Samsung unveiled the enlarged version of Galaxy S6 edge, the Galaxy S6 edge+ alongside Galaxy Note5.
The S6 edge+ like the Galaxy S6 edge comes with a display that is curved on both its sides. It comes with App Edge, that lets you access some of the apps quickly by simply swiping from the edge. Also there is a Ticker feature that brings up news from content partners like CNN, Yahoo and Twitter. It has KNOX Active Protection and My KNOX app to protect sensitive personal and work data.
There is also a fingerprint sensor built into the oval shaped physical home key for secure lock and payments using Samsung Pay. There is also a heart rate monitor on the back.
Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ comes with 5.7-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) pixels Super AMOLED curved dual edge display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. Under the hood there is an Octa-Core (Quad 2.1GHz + Quad 1.5GHz) 64 bit, 14 nm Exynos 7420 processor paired with 4GB LPDDR4 RAM. You can choose between 32GB or 64GB on-board storage, no microSD card slot present. It runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with TouchWiz on top.
For imaging it comes mounted with a 16-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, OIS, f/1.9 aperture and 4K video recording capabilities. On the front sits a 5-megapixel shooter with f/1.9 aperture. In terms of connectivity it supports 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.2 LE & apt-X and NFC. It is fueled by 3000mAh battery and supports fast charging for both wired and wireless. The phone fully charges in approximately 90 minutes using a wired charger and just 120 minutes using Samsung’s wireless charger
The Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ comes in White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum and Silver Titanium colors. It will be available for order starting from today in the US and Canada and will go on sale from August 21.
