Apple Music comes to Android

Apple Music, the music streaming and radio servce from Apple has finally hit the Google Play Store, with a tag of Beta status for now. Android users can now sign up for a three month free trial period, after that you will have to pay for the subscription. They will also have a direct link to iTunes and can listen to Beats 1 radio.

The Apple Music for Android will work on Android smartphones running version 4.2 and later. If you have always been an Android user, You might have to sign up for an Apple ID to get the app to work. Apple's SVP of Internet software and services, Eddy Cue says that they are trying to simplify the sign-up process, so the use of Apple ID is not needed.

As the app is in beta, some of the features will not be available. It doesn't feature music videos, but is expected to arrive soon and users can opt only for the individual plan and not the family plan within the app. If they wish to sign up for family plan, that can be done only through desktop or iOS device.

Subscription fee for Apple Music will cost $9.99 per month (Rs. 120 in India). There is also a family plan for the Apple Music, where six members of family can use the service for $14.99 (Rs.180 in India) per month, after your 90-day free trial period is over.

Apple first announced that Apple Music would be coming to Android back in June during its Developer Conference. Recently, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that Apple Music has 6.5 million paying customers, with 8.5 million users in a trial period.

Interestingly, Apple Music is the first proper app launched by Apple for Android. The company has launched 'Move to iOS' Android app in September but the app turned out to be merely a re-branded version of an existing app, that offered similar features developed by the same team.
