Asus working on augmented reality headset, coming in 2016
Asus is all set to foray into the augmented reality market. The Taiwanese company revealed that it will launch its first augmented reality headset sometime in 2016.
In an interview with CNET Asus CEO Jerry Shen revealed the company's plan about augmented reality headset. He thinks that augmented reality headsets will be more popular that virtual reality ones like Oculus Rift or PlayStation VR. "You can make a real setting meld together with yourself and the AR portion," he said. "Internally, we are talking about how to prepare."
Shen added that the company also plans to release a service robot next year, though no details were disclosed.
At present, Microsoft has HoloLens, its first augmented reality headset. Its functions ranging from gaming to medical science has been showcased by the company in a number of conference. The developer’s version of HoloLens will cost $3000 and will arrive in early 2016.
Previous reports revealed that ASUS was working with Microsoft on some version of HoloLens, that will be priced cheaper, but at this point it remains unclear whether the augmented reality glasses
ASUS plans to release in 2016 will have any connection with Microsoft's HoloLens.
