Lenovo committed to manufacturing in India; Moto X Force coming soon
Chinese technology major, Lenovo, is the latest manufacturer to signify its interest in making devices locally in India. Called 'Make in India', it's an initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to encourage multinational, as well as domestic, companies to manufacture their products in India.
Lenovo CEO, Yang Yuanqing, after a meeting with Modi on Wednesday said that the company is committed to India in terms of investment in areas of manufacturing and research and development.
“We will invest more in India, and only in manufacturing. Almost all our PCs are made in India and we recently announced smartphone manufacturing also. We will invest in R&D also and that is my commitment to PM Modi,” he said at a Lenovo Innovation Showcase event in New Delhi, India.
Yuanqing also said that Lenovo's India unit had outperformed the target he had set from them and clocked $2.25 billion in revenue. "In three years, we have reached a revenue of $2.5 billion (Rs. 16,540 crores) in India compared to a target of $800 million (Rs. 5,292 crores) when we came to this country which is fast evolving in the area of technology," Yuanqing said
At the event Motorola India head Amit Boni mentioned that the Moto X Force, international variant of Droid 2 will be announced in the country shortly, but did not share any details on the launch date and price. He also said that Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Pro will be available soon in India.
At the event, Lenovo also showcased its new crowdsourced logo, along with that the company's new tagline "Innovation never stands still".
