Panasonic Toughbook 20 is a rugged, detachable laptop and tablet

There are lots of 2-in-1 laptop on the market, mostly designed for general consumers, but soon there will be one that can used in extreme environments. Panasonic has introduced the first 2-in-1 rugged laptop with detachable keyboard and display- the Toughbook 20.

The Toughbook 20 is designed to meet MIL-STD-461F for electromagentic interference and MIL-STD-810G for drop, shock, vibration, explosive atmosphere, temperature, humidity, rain and sand, as well as waterproof and dustproof ingress (IP65). It is housed in a magnesium alloy chassis that can be locked and unlocked to secure your data. The chassis  comes with port covers and a raised bezel so that you don't have to worry about dust and water getting inside

It can be used in a number of modes- traditional laptop, detached tablet, tablet flipped 180 degrees while attached for presentations, convertible mode with keyboard attached, built-in carry mode or hanging on a wall, and vehicle mode while the device is on the move

The Panasonic Toughbook 20 features a 10.1-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) 800 nit multi-touch display that works even when you’re wearing gloves. There is also support for an  optional active digitizer. Inside there is Intel Core m5-6Y57 vPro processor with a clock speed of 1.1GHz clubbed with 8GB RAM along side 128GB 256GB or 512GB SSD.  It runs Windows 10 Pro, which can be downgraded to Windows 7, should your organization desire the older operating system.

On the tablet there is a USB 3.0 port (optional 2nd USB), micro SDXC card slot, HDMI and micro SIM ports. On the keyboard dock there is three full sized USB ports, HDMI port, VGA port, Ethernet port, serial port and a SDXC card reader. For wireless connectivity there is WiFi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth and options for 4G LTE, NFC and GPS.

There is a 2600mAh removable battery on the tabelt, and there's an option to place a second battery of the same capacity in the keyboard dock to double the life.

The Panasonic Toughbook 20 prices start at $3099 and will be available in February 2016.
