Sony outs eight PlayStation 2 games for PS4 with 1080p graphics

Sony had been working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 game titles to the current generation console, PS4. Now Sony is bringing back the memories and nostalgia for playstation and announced  that eight PS3 games will be made available for PS4.

Now PS4 owners will be able to download and play PS2 games via PlayStation store in the U.S and Europe. Unfortunately, this is limited to digital PS2 games purchased online via the PlayStation Network and you will not be able to use old PS2 discs.

"To celebrate our PS2 heritage, I'm excited to announce that starting tomorrow [December 5], you will be able to purchase and play PS2 games on your PS4 via PlayStation Store in the Americas and Europe," Yoshida's post reads on the PlayStation blog.

The first batch of titles available in the U.S and Europe are as follows:
  • Dark Cloud — $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto III — $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City — $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas — $14.99
  • Rogue Galaxy — $14.99
  • The Mark of Kri — $14.99
  • Twisted Metal: Black — $9.99
  • War of the Monsters — $9.99
Sony states that the old PS2 games will bring a whole new experience in the PS4. The games support 1080p/60fps, trophies and features unique to PS4 including Live Broadcast, Share Play, Remote Play, Activity, Second Screen -- and offers an upgraded gaming experience compared to PS One and PS2 Classics.

Furthermore Yoshida said that Sony will work tirelessly to out more PS2 titles for PS4 on a regular basis. He also mentioned that some of these titles such as Rogue Galaxy and the Grand Theft Auto games will be playable on the show floor at PlayStation Experience 2015 in San Francisco this weekend. Other titles such as PaRappa the Rapper 2 and The King of Fighters 2000 will be coming soon.
