HP unveils EliteBook Folio thinnest, lightest business-class notebook


HP at CES 2016 has introduced a new slimmer and lighter EliteBook Folio notebook. It measures only 12.4mm thin and weighs under 1kg. The notebook is being aimed at business customers who want a thin and light notebook combined with higher security features.

The notebook is made out of a "polished diamond-cut CNC aluminum body" and also has a display hinge that can be rotated 180 degrees so that the notebook can be placed flat on a table.

The HP Elitebook Folio sports a 12.5-inch Full HD display and also comes with an options Ultra HD (UHD) 4K display model. It supports Intel Core M vPro processor, 128/256 SSD, and up to 8GB of DDR4 RAM. It runs Windows 10 pro and offers 10 hours of battery life. The notebook comes with two USB-C (TM) ports with Thunderbolt (TM) 3 for fast data transfers and 4K display support. The audio is powered by Bang and Olufsen and it comes with a full-size HP premium keyboard with a Windows 10 gesture-enable clickpad.

HP also announced the EliteBook 1040 G3 and EliteBook 800 G3 series business-class notebook.  The EliteBook 1040 G3 comes with the same all-aluminum diamond cut design and is the world thinnest 14-inch business notebook. The EliteBook 800 G3 has a silver magnesium and aluminum body.

The EliteBook 1040 G3 and EliteBook 800 G3 comes with Windows 10 Pro, 6th generation Intel Core vPro processor, PCIe Gen3SSD and DDR4 memory. The EliteBook 800 series is available in 12.5-inch, 14.0-inch or 15.6-inch diagonal HD, FHD, QHD or UHD screens; the EliteBook 1040 offers a choice of either FHD or QHD screens.

Pricing and availability
  • HP EliteBook Folio price starts at $999 (Rs. 66,500), expected to be available in March 
  • The HP EliteBook 1040 G3  price starts at $1,199 (Rs. 80,000), expected to be available in January 
  • The HP EliteBook 800 G3 series price starts at $949 (Rs. 65,000) expected to be available in January
