HTC Vive VR headset pre-orders begins February 29
HTC has announced that it would be accepting pre-orders for the Vive VR headset starting from February 29. The pre-orders are expected to be shipped in April. Pricing is yet to be announced.
The Vive is developed by HTC and video game developers Valve. Along with the headset, the Vive packs two controllers, which users hold in each hannd to track their movements.
HTC CEO Cher Wang said to The Telegraph, that the company is betting heavily on the future of VR. "Yes, smartphones are important, but to create a natural extension to other connected devices like wearables and virtual reality is more important," Wang told the publication.
The HTC Vive was expected to launch in December, but was delayed until April, citing “a very, very big technological breakthrough” as the primary reason for the delay.
At CES 2016, HTC showed off its second generation developer kit, the Vive Pre and it included a front facing camera, to detect objects and walls in front of the wearer. It also offers 360-degree head tracking, and has inbuilt sensors, that allows wearers to interact with real environments around them.
