Teewe-Maker raises $3 million funding, to launch Android based OS and smartphone
Bengaluru based CREO (formerly Mango Man Consumer electronics), makers of HDMI media streaming device Teewe, will be entering the mobile market by producing a Android based mobile OS and a smartphone, that will be released later this year.
The startup announced that it has secured $3 million (Rs. 20.4 crores) funding from Sequoia Capital, Beenext Ventures and India Quotient to develop its OS and smartphone. They also launched their website called Creosense.com.
The company will invest the funds in building and enriching software experience through its propreitary Android-based mobile OS, and will launch a flagship smartphone later this year. The brand wants to differentiate itself from other smartphone makers with its software, by offering monthly updates to the smartphone, to evolve the OS. The OS would also be licensed to other OEMs in India and worldwide.
“The idea of building an Android based Operating System for a Smartphone stemmed from the realisation that in the current market, while hardware is getting better very fast, there is not enough differentiation on the software front. We want to be the ones bridging that gap,” said CREO in a press statement.
There are no details on specifications, launch time and price of the smartphone, but the company said it would ""not break your bank".
