Gionee unveils all-metallic S8 with 3D Touch display


Chinese smartphone maker Gionee has announced it flasgship smartphone the S8 at MWC 2016 in Barcelona. The S8 flauts a slim all-metal build with chamfered edges giving it a premium look and the brand says that it has the world’s first invisible antenna design in the full loop around the edge.

The Gionee S8 features 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) AMOLED display with 2.5D arc glass and Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. The screen is pressure-sensitive just like the 3D Touch found of Apple iPhone 6s/6s Plus, and can sense three levels of force, to either select, preview or launch an app.

The S8 is equipped with 1.95GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 (MT6755) processor paired with Mali T860 GPU and 4GB RAM. On-board storage is 64GB, further expandable via microSD card up to 128GB.

For imaging, it sports 16-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, f/1.8 aperture, RWB technology, 6P lenses, PDAF and Laser auto-focus. On the front there is 8-megapixel selfie camera. The front screen of the phone can be used as a flash to capture better low light selfies.

On the software front, the S8 runs on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) with Amigo OS 3.2 on top, which has offers new features such as dual WhatsApp support for each SIMs, floating window to watch video while on WhatsApp or browser and more.

For connectivity there is support for 4G LTE with VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac/a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS. It is fueled by 3000mAh battery that supports fast charging. It also comes with fingerprint scanner, the sensor for the scanner are embedded into the home button that has response time of just 0.1 seconds and identification time of 0.38 seconds.

The Gionee S8 is priced at 449 Euros ($495 | Rs. 34,000) and will be available by March end. It comes in Rose Gold, Grey and Gold colors
