Android Lollipop adoption hits 36.1 percent, Marshmallow now on 2.3 percent active devices

Google has released Android distribution chart for seven day period ending March 7, 2016.

The latest numbers reveal that Android Lollipop is the most widely used version of Android. The Lollipop adoption saw an increase from 34.1 percent to 36.1 percent. Lollipop has also for the very first time surpassed Android 4.4 KitKat, which has gone down the chart steadily at 34.3 percent as compared to 35.5 percent last month, a decrease of 1.1 percent.

Google's latest operating system Android Marshmallow is now present on 2.3 percent active Android devices, a 1.1 percent increase as compared to February's figure of 1.2 percent. The adoption is expected to increase in next month, as OEMs have  started rolling the update to their popular devices, and the increase in availability of Android-Marshmallow based devices in the market.

The rest of the Android versions adoption rates have dropped. Android 4.1x - 4.3 Jelly Bean has now dropped to 22.3 percent, down from 23.9 percent (February). Ice Cream Sandwhich and Gingerbread are still present on 2.3 percent and 2.6 percent of devices respectively. Froyo is staying afloat at 0.1 percent.
