Tesla Model 3 announced, set for 2017 release, prices start at $35000

The dream of Tesla CEO Elon Musk to bring an electric car to the masses has turned into reality, as the popular U.S electric car maker unveiled the Tesla Model 3 electric sedan.

The Tesla Model 3 can reach from 0 to 60 MPH in less than 60 seconds and is able to travel at least 215 miles (346 km) per charge. It will also offer auto-pilot, which enables the vehicle to drive itself on highways and roads. It can seat up to five adults and has two trunk spaces for luggage in the front and back. Musk said it could fit a 7-foot surfboard inside the car. The vehicle will also have Supercharging as a standard feature.

The Tesla Model 3 prices start at $35,000 and is expected to go into production in late 2017. It will be coming to India, Brazil, South Africa, South Korea, Singapore, New Zealand and Ireland. Tesla is taking pre-orders for the Model 3, which requires a $1000 down payment. You'll need a credit card to make the payment, but the fee is refundable in case you decide not to buy.

Tesla said that it has already taken order for more than 1,30,000 Model 3 and counting. The Model 3 is the most affordable vehicle, in the Tesla line-up and is a smaller hybrid of Model S and X. The Model S prices start at $71,000, while the Model X SUV starts around $80,000.

The nearest competitor to Tesla's Model 3 is Chevy's Bolt which is product of GM and has electric range of 200 miles and costs around $30,000.
