Samsung Gear Fit 2 fitness tracker with GPS, heart rate monitor announced

Samsung forayed into the fitness-tracking space with Gear Fit fitness tracker at MWC 2014. Now two years later, the company has introduced it's successor, the Gear Fit 2. The next gen Gear Fit 2 runs Tizen OS and is able to automatically track a range of activities such as running, walking, cycling, yoga or utilizing rowing machine or elliptical trainer

The Gear Fit 2 comes with GPS to measure distance, pace, route and calories, and a series of sensors including gyroscope, accelerometer, barometer, and heart-rate monitor. It works as a standalone music player and also plays motivational soundtrack over Bluetooth to keep you moving. It connects to your smartphone and display notifications for calls, texts, appointments and messages.

The fitness tracker sports a 1.5-inch Curved AMOLED screen with 216 x 432 resolution, and is powered by 1GHz dual-core processor with 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage. It is backed by 200mAh battery and is IP68 rated for dust and water resistance.

The data collected by Gear Fit 2 syncs with your smartphone via S Health app  and other select fitness applications. It is compatible with devices running Android 4.4 and up and have at least 1.5GB RAM.

The Samsung Gear Fit 2 is priced at $179 (Rs. 12,000) and will go on sale in the U.S on June 10. It comes in black, blue and pink colors.
