Xiaomi Mi Band 2 fitness tracker with OLED display, heart rate sensor gets official

The Xiaomi Mi Band 2 was expected to be announced on May 10, but due to production issues the announcement was delayed by a month. Now Xiaomi has official taken the wraps off the Mi Band 2 fitness and sleep tracker tracker in China.

The Xiaomi Mi Band 2 is the successor of the much popular Mi Band that sold over 10 million units, and with Mi Band 2, Xiaomi expects the same success. The Mi Band 2 is a major upgrade over Mi Band, as it comes with two important features, an OLED display and PPG (photoplethysmography) sensor for heart rate monitoring, both missing in Mi Band.

The Mi Band 2 comes with 0.42-inch OLED display, covered by a scratch-resistant glass and anti-fingerprint coating. The screen shows time, steps taken and heart rate when you tap at the button below the screen. You can also set the Mi Band 2 display to show either time or step taken when lifting up the wrist.

The fitness tracker also comes with an upgraded pedometer algorithm to measure rate, fitness & sleep data more accurately. It also has a new wristband design that is made of skin friendly materials and is IP67 certified for water resistance. The band connects to compatible devices (Android 4.4+/iOS 7+) over Bluetooth 4.0 LE and offers vibration alerts users for incoming calls, alarm and notification. It is fueled by 70mAh battery, that promises up to 20 days of standby time, and weighs just 7g.

Priced at CNY 149 ($22 | Rs. 1,500), the Mi Band 2 comes in Black color with colorful wrist bands in black, blue, green, orange and other colors. It is now available for order via mi.com in home market China, and will go on sale from June 7. There is no word on global roll out.
