The Kobo Aura One is a 7.8-inch waterproof e-reader


E-reader manufacturer Kobo has announced a new bigger, thinner, lighter and water-resistant e-reader called Kobo Aura One, which will take on Amazon's Kindles.

The Kobo Aura One has a 7.8-inch 1827 x 1404 E Ink display with pixel density of 300ppi, while Amazon's Kindles offer up to 6-inch. The color temperature of the display can be automatically or manually adjusted according to the liking of the users. This feature will come in handy when reading in the dark.

Inside Auro One, there's a 1GHz processor, 512MB RAM and 8GB storage (no microSD card support). It also include WiFi and a USB port and offers up to one month of battery life depending on usage. It's also water resistant with an IPX8 certification for up to 2 meters water for 60 minutes. It measures 6.9mm thin and weighs 230g.

The Kobo Aura One will go on sale on September 6 for $229 in the U.S and Canada ($249). It will also be available that same day in a number of other regions including UK, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Japan, and Turkey.

Kobo is also releasing an updated version of the 6-inch Aura, which was launched in 2013, will also go on sale next month. It features 6-inch 1024 x 768 touchscreen e-ink display, 4GB storage, microSD card slot, WiFi and two months of battery life. The Kobo Aura Edition 2 will go on sale on September 6 for $119.

Both the Kobo Aura Edition 2 and Aura One will be available for preorder on August 30.
