Samsung Galaxy Note7 global sales suspended after battery explosion, issues recall


Samsung has hit a major roadblock with its well-received new Galaxy Note7. Recently several users claimed that the Galaxy Note7's battery exploded while charging, following which as a precautionary measure Samsung reportedly suspended shipments of the Galaxy Note7 as it wanted to conduct additional quality control tests.

Now Samsung has come out with a statement, saying that it will issue Galaxy Note7 replacement units for customer who already have the device. The company also said that so far 35 cases the battery exploding have been reported globally, and it is currently working with supplier to identify the faulty units. As a result, Samsung has also confirmed, it will suspend the sales of the Galaxy Note7.

The Samsung Galaxy Note7 was expected to go on sale today in India, but that will not be happening. If you have pre-ordered the Galaxy Note7 in India, you will have to wait for a while your phone top ship. Currently it is not known if Samsung plans to offer refunds to customers, who have pre-oreder the Galaxy Note7, but have not yet received their unit.

Samsung is committed to producing the highest quality products and we take every incident report from our valued customers very seriously. In response to recently reported cases of the new Galaxy Note7, we conducted a thorough investigation and found a battery cell issue.

To date (as of September 1) there have been 35 cases that have been reported globally and we are currently conducting a thorough inspection with our suppliers to identify possible affected batteries in the market. However, because our customers’ safety is an absolute priority at Samsung, we have stopped sales of the Galaxy Note7.

For customers who already have Galaxy Note7 devices, we will voluntarily replace their current device with a new one over the coming weeks.

We acknowledge the inconvenience this may cause in the market but this is to ensure that Samsung continues to deliver the highest quality products to our customers. We are working closely with our partners to ensure the replacement experience is as convenient and efficient as possible.
