Sony Xperia XZ flagship, Xperia X Compact mid-ranger gets official
Sony at MWC 2016 retired its long running Xperia Z series and unveiled the brand new Xperia X series with three phones namely Xperia X, XA and X Performance. Later the company also introduced the 6-inch selfie focused Xperia XA ultra phablet. Now, at IFA 2016 Sony has expanded the Xperia Z line up with two new phones, with the launch of the Xperia XZ flagship and the mid-range Xperia XA Compact running Android Marshmallow.
Sony Xperia XZ
The Sony Xperia XZ flaunts a polished metal rear panel that comes in Forest Blue, Mineral Black and Platinum colors, with plastic curves running around the frame and curves on its edges. It is also IP68 certified making it water and dust resistance. The phones power button doubles as a fingerprint scanner.
The Xperia XZ has a 5.2-inch 1080p LCD Sony TRILUMINOS display and is powered by Snapdragon 820 processor with 3GB RAM and comes with 32GB/64GB storage options with microSD card support.
The camera department includes 23-megapixel rear unit with an LED flash and features like hardware stabilization (5-axis stabilization solution), Exmor RS sensor, laser auto-focus, phase-detection auto-focus (PDAF), an LED flash, a new color spectrum sensor, manual shutter speed and 4K video recording. For selfies and video calling there's 13-megapixel front camera.
Connectivity duties are handled by 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/ GLONASS, NFC and USB Type-C. It is fueled by 2900mAh battery, which supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 technolgy and adaptive charging.
Sony Xperia X Compact
The Xperia X Compact has a smaller 4.6-inch HD Triluminos Display with Corning Gorilla Glass protectionand is powered by Snapdragon 650 processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage, which can be further increased via microSD card. It offers the same 23-megapixel rear camera at the back, at the back as Xperia XZ, but excludes 4K video recording support. There's 5-megapixel front facing camera for selfies and a 2700mAh battery keeps it running. Rest of the specs including connectivity and security features are same as Xperia XR.
The Sony Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact will roll out globally from October. Their pricing and availability will be revealed at local launch.
