BSNL is offering double data benefits at the same price for prepaid customers

State-owned teleco BSNL has announced a new promotional offer under which BSNL's prepaid subscribers will get double benefit on four new data Special Tariff Vouchers (STVs).

The STVs will have a validity of 365 days with double data offer when availed between October 10 and October 31.

Under the offer, the Rs. 1,498 Special Tariff Voucher will give you 18GB of data instead of 9GB, the Rs. 2798 plan gives you 36GB data instead of 18GB, Rs 3,998 plan gives you 60GB instead of 30GB and Rs. 4,498 plan gives you 80GB data instead of 40GB. With  the new plans, BSNL's cost for 1GB data goes down to Rs. 84.

Last month BSNL announced that it will offer free voice calls starting January to counter Reliance Jio. While Jio's free voice call is limited to 4G users, BSNL's voice calls are targeted at 2GB and 3G users as well. But there's a catch, the new plans will only be offered to users who have BSNL's broadband connection at home. Under the plan, home broadband users will have to route outgoing voice calls through land line network when at home. However, voice calls will remain free when a subscriber is outside their house.
