OnePlus 3 production reportedly halted, new variant with LCD display, Snapdragon 821 in works


OnePlus launched its 2016 flagship killer the OnePlus back in June and was touted to be one of the best premium Android smartphone of the year. However, the company has been struggling to meet demands for OnePlus 3 due to shortage of AMOLED display panels and plans to launch an upgraded OnePlus model with LCD dIsplay says a new report.

The report citing sources in the OnePlus supply chain claims OnePlus has halted the production of OnePlus 3 permanently to make way for a  new flagship device, which will allegedly be called as OnePlus 3S or OnePlus 3 Plus.

The report says that OnePlus will launch the upgraded OnePlus 3 featuring LCD panels instead of AMOLED screens. It will also reportedly feature Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 821 processor, which is utilized by Xiaomi's Mi 5s, LeEco Le Pro 3, Asus ZenFone 3 Ultra and Google's latest Pixel phones. It is also being rumored that the upgraded OnePlus 3 will sport a bigger 6-inch display. However it is not know, whether the screen will be 2K or 1080p.

The report further mentions that the Grey OnePlus 3 is already out of stock, and only the Soft Gold OnePlus 3 is available for purchase. At the time of writing, only one unit of Grey OnePlus 3 is in stock on Amazon India.

Currently it is not known when the upgraded OnePlus 3 will be released.
