Apple to reportedly start iPhone production in India from April 2017

According to a report published on Times of India, Apple is planning to make iPhones for the Indian market in Bangalore in April 2017.

The report citing industry sources suggest that the tech giant's Taiwanese manufacturer Wistron is reportedly setting up facility at Peenya, the city's industrial hub. Furthermore Apple is said to be "very serious" about beginning assembly operations as early as April 2017 and thereafter push its manufacturing processes to fullest in India by end of 2017.

Corroborating with the report is the job opening published on Apple's portal for a few position at its Peenya factory like Operations Program Manager  Vendor Manager, Regional Field Sales Manager, Site Reliability Engineer, Partnership Manager, Demand Generation Program Manager, Software Engineering Lead, and several others.

One of the advantages of locally manufacturing Apple products especially iPhones is that there will be a decent amount of difference in the selling price and they will be sold at cheaper rates in the future. iPhones or other Apple products which are currently imported in the country come with 12.5 percent of duty on it. As a result iPhone will be more competitive in the Indian smartphone market, which is already having a good amount of market share in the top-end price segment.

By setting up manufacturing facility in India, Apple might also be allowed to open retail stores in the country as well, as it will be manufacturing a certain portion of their product in the country. According to India law, for a foreign brand to set up single-brand retail it must source 30 percent of the value of the goods sold in the store that is manufactured in India.
