HTC is not working on an Android Wear smartwatch
Rumors of an HTC made Android Wear smartwatch have been surfacing since 2014. Recently live images of the watch codenamed halfbeak leaked online, leading to speculation that it will be unveiled at MWC, next month. However, that is not happening, as HTC has shot down the rumors, confirming that the company is not releasing an Android smartwatch anytime soon.
Denying the rumors, Chialin Chang, HTC's President of Smartphones and Connected Device, told Tbreak "I can tell you that we're not going to have an Android watch. I don't think we've nailed it with [the experience of] watches. Android watch is one thing but even Apple as a big brand is declining [in watches]. We are not going to have a watch in the short term."
After the statement, Android Police, reached out to HTC to clarify the statement and the company official also agreed that the company is not releasing any Android smartwatch. Additionally Android Police also learned from a source that Halfbeak was a very older prototype smartwatch that hasn't been in development for a long time.
So it's confirmed HTC won't have a smartwatch ready for Android Wear 2.0.
