Samsung's Bixby to reportedly come with visual search, text recognition abilities

Samsung's upcoming flagship the Galaxy S8 will reportedly come with its own AI powered smart virtual assistant called Brixby, which will be capable of making payments and have the ability to control almost all the native apps that would come pre-installed on the device.

Now according to a new report from SamMobile Bixby will be able to do a lot more than what was expected. The report says that Bixby will also be able to make visual searches, which means it will be able to search for objects identified in an image.

The standard camera app on Galaxy S8 will integrate a button for Bixby, which will give access to search tools that will process whatever object the camera is pointed towards. The assistant will then analyse the image and be able to identify the objects or texts. It will be also be able to search for that object, or use optical character recognition to process any text you point the phone at.

Bixby is a result of Samsung's acquisition of Viv Labs- a company (also responsible for building Siri) that it acquired in October last year and is the company's answer to Microsoft's Cortana, Google's Assistant, Amazon's Alexa and Apple's Siri.

The Galaxy S8 is rumored to feature a large display, taking up most of the front due to which the Home Button is getting an axe. The fingerprint sensor will be placed underneath the display. The Galaxy S8 is expect to be unveiled on March 29 at an event in New York.
