HTC U Ultra, U Play lands in India, available mid-March

HTC is launching its U series smartphones, the U Ultra and U Play in India for Rs. 59,990 and Rs. 39,990 respectively. They will go on sale in the country mid-March.

HTC is offering one-year insurance that covers liquid damage and any physical damage to phones. They phones also come with 7.5 percent cashback using Standard Charted Debit or credit card from March 6 to May 31, 2017.

The HTC U Ultra is a flagship device, while the HTC U Play is a ridiculously priced mid-ranger. Both feature HTC's AI powered Sense Companion, which learns users daily activity and offers intelligent suggestions, biometric voice unlock and control features, and four low-powered always-on mic that responds to voice commands. Both also come with fingerprint sensor, which is embedded into the home button, and skip 3.5mm audio jack in favor of USB Type-C audio.

The HTC U Ultra gets a 2-inch secondary touch display, that shows notification, reminders, shortcuts, frequent contacts, music playback controls and more.

Coming to the specs, the HTC U Ultra comes with 5.7-inch QHD Gorilla Glass 5 display, Snapdragon 821 chip, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, 12MP OIS PDAF rear camera, 16MP front camera, 4G LTE, NFC, Android Nougat and 3000mAh battery.

The HTC U Play on the other hand has a smaller 5.2-inch Super LCD Full HD Gorilla Glass display, MediaTek Helio P10 chip, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, 16MP OIS PDAF rear camera, 16MP front camera, 4G LTE, NFC, Android Marshmallow and 2500mAh battery.

Taking into account price and specs of U Play, there is no doubt, HTC will struggle to sell the device. The OnePlus 3T offers HTC U Ultra-like specs at a lower Rs. 27,999. Than there is the Snapdragon 820 powered Mi 5 and Sony's Snapdragon 650-powered Xperia X which is selling between Rs. 23,000 and Rs. 25,000.
