Micromax teases new smartphone launch, hints at dual-cameras

Micromax is teasing the launch of a new smartphone with the tagline 'Cannot Overlook', with the letter O highlighted, suggesting the phone will feature dual-cameras. It is not exactly known, whether the new dual-camera phone will be part of an existing line up or, launch under a new series altogether. Micromax is yet to reveal a unveiling date.

Meanwhile, a report from India Today suggests that Micromax will revise it business strategy, that will see the brand covering not only the budget segment, but also the premium price points.

As part of the revised strategy, the brand will launch a premium smartphone with high-end hardware, slicker design and price tag between Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 30,000. The report further says that the phone will have HTC 10-like design sporting a metal unibody with curved back and tapered edges. It will also have USB Type-C port and fast charging support.

The upcoming Micromax phone will launch by end of this month or early April, says the report.

That said, last month a Micromax phone codenamed E4815 with dual-cameras hit the interwebs, and could be the phone Micromax is teasing. According to rumors the phone will feature 13MP + 5MP dual cameras, 5MP front camera, metal unibody design, 5.5-inch Full HD display, octa-core MediaTek chip, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, Android Nougat, 4G VoLTE, and fingerprint scanner. Again as with every rumor, a grain of salt is advised.

The company is also expected to unveil new affordable Bharat series smartphones, under which it is rumored to launch a feature phone called Bharat 1 and Android smartphone, Bharat 2.

Micromax once the top smartphone brand in the country, had a difficult time last year, due to Chinese smartphone invasion, especially from brands like Lenovo, Oppo, vivo, Honor and online king Xiaomi. Micromax sub-brand who had a decent run in 2015, also struggled last year. The brand even revised its strategy, but nothing has helped it so far. Only time will tell if the new strategy and upcoming phones will bring back Micromax's lost glory.
