Microsoft's new Surface Pro has Kaby Lake, 13.5 hours of battery life and LTE option

As expected, Microsoft at its Microsoft Event in Shanghai unveiled the all new Surface Pro 2-in-1 tablet, the most powerful Surface product.

It is follow up model to the 2015's Surface Pro 4, sporting nearly identical design, but bets a much needed upgrade featuring seventh-gen Intel Core Kaby Lake processor instead of Skylake, and improved battery life. It also gets optional 4G LTE connectivity support.

The Surface Pro tablet features 12.3-inch (2736 x 1824 pixels) PixelSense touch display and comes with the options Core m3, Core i5 or Core i7 Kaby Lake processor, 4GB/8GB/16GB RAM and 128GB/256GB/512GB/1TB SSD.

Microsoft says the new Surface Pro can provide up to 13.5 hours of battery life, which is 50 percent more than Surface Pro 4 and 35 percent more than Apple's iPad Pro. The new Surface Pro is also being touted as the lightest Surface device ever, starting at just 768g and is 8.5mm thin.

The tablet has 8MP rear camera and 5MP front camera and includes WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1, USB 3.0, microSD card reader, Mini DisplayPort, Surface Connect and 1.6W stereo speaker with DolbyAudio. It also has a hinge with full 165-degree range of motion, which is Studio Mode, an angle inspired by Surface Studio, useful for sketching or writing.

Microsoft also introduced a new Surface Pen with 4096 pressure points, which is double the level of pressure than its predecessor, and is more responsive. The new pen is capable of drawing more accurately and reflect your handwriting better. It also comes with new Inkning function in Microsoft Office app.

The company also unveiled a new Signature Type Covers for the tablet, made of Alcantara material, and is designed to resist accidental spills. It comes with 1.3mm of key travel for fast writing, and will be available in three colors: Platinum, Burgundy and Cobalt Blue.

The Microsoft Pro 2017 prices starts at $799.99 (Rs. 51,840), lower than the staring price of Surface Pro 4, and goes all the way up to $2699 (Rs. 1,75,000). It will be up for pre-order starting today and ships on June 15 and Microsoft says that it will be available in 25 countries. The new Surface Pen and Signature Type Cover are priced at $99 (Rs. 6,500) and $129 (Rs. 8,360) respectively.
