Xiaomi Redmi 3S becomes highest selling smartphone online in India

Xiaomi has broken its own record. The Chinese smartphone maker announced that it sold over four million units (40 lakh) of Redmi 3S (and its variants) smartphone in India, making it the highest online selling smartphone, dethroning the Redmi Note 3.

The Redmi 3S was launched in the country back in August 2016, which means Xiaomi managed to sell over four million units in just nine months of launch. It's worth mentioning that back in November Xiaomi claimed to have sold over one million (10 lakh) units of Redmi 3 within three months of launch. So, it sold three million additional units in just six months.

There are total three versions of Redmi 3S namely  Redmi 3S, Redmi 3S Prime and Redmi 3S Plus, all priced affordably under Rs. 9,000 and boasting decent specs.

This has been the story of Xiaomi since last year, breaking records and reaching new heights. The Redmi phones are very popular across all over the country especially the last five devices, the Redmi Note 3, Redmi 3, Redmi Note 4 (and their variants) and Redmi 4A. Last year the company claimed that Redmi Note 3 was the best selling online smartphone in the country, while the Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4A launched this year have been selling like hot cakes. Moreover, the Redmi Note 3 and Redmi 3 line up were the main reason behind Xiaomi's one billion revenue in the country last year.

All this has resulted in Xiaomi capturing the second position in India's smartphone market. Also, Xiaomi has started focusing on the offline market, to reach more consumers and strengthen its position further. Recently, the brand opened its first India Mi Home in Bengaluru, and plans to open 100 over in the next two years.

The announcement comes just three days before the launch of a new Redmi 4 variant, another sub-Rs. 10,000 smartphone which is much awaited in the country.
