Moto X Play from 2015 finally tastes Android Nougat


The Moto X Play from 2015 that shipped with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop (updated to Marshmallow later) is finally getting the taste of Android Nougat, with the latest software update. Motorola has started rolling out the latest Android 7.1.1 update to the device.

The update brings features of both Android 7.0 and Android 7.1.1 like multi-windows support, enhanced notifications, improved doze and more, alongside stability improvements, bug fixes, and security patches, which is from May 1, 2017.

Motorola has also posted release notes of the upgrade on its webiste, and mentions some features of the update:
  • Android 7.1.1 Nougat - Many enhancements including new multitasking features, more efficient notification controls and improved data saver and battery features.
  • Video calling: Duo is a one-to-one video calling app for everyone – designed to be simple, reliable and fun so you never miss a moment.
  • Stability improvements: Includes changes that fix bugs and improve the stability of your phone.
  • Android security: Includes the updates of Android security patches until May 1st 2017.
Android 7.1.1 for the Moto X Play is rolling out in phases, and if you've not received the update, don't worry, you'll get it in the coming days. You'll be automatically notified about the update, if not, you can check for it manually by going to settings > about > Software update. Make sure you're device is connected to a WiFi network and has 50 percent charge before downloading the update.
