Xiaomi sets MIUI 9 and dual-cameras toting Mi 5X announcement for July 26


Xiaomi has scheduled an event in China on July 26 to make two major announcements. The device maker will unveil its latest mid-range camera-centric smartphone Mi 5X, as well as reveal details of the highly anticipated MIUI 9 software.

The Xiaomi Mi 5X is said to be an affordable smartphone with a premium design that almost resembles iPhone 7 Plus. It will have dual-cameras and a rear mounted fingerprint scanner. The phone is expected to feature 5.5-inch Full HD display, Snapdragon 625 processor and 4GB RAM. There are also rumors of a second variant featuring Snapdragon 660 chip, 6GB RAM and 64GB storage. The dual-cameras is said to have optical zoom and consist of a Sony IMX386 sensor and a Samsung S5K3M3 CMOS sensor. The selfie camera is a 16MP unit.

According to previous reports the Mi 5X will cost CNY 1999 ($295 | Rs. 19,000) and come in Black, Gold and Rose Gold colors.

As for MIUI 9, Xiaomi has already confirmed that it will release to eligible devices before August 16. Here is whats known so far about MIUI 9:

  • Redesigned Lock Screen shortcut
  • Revamped icons
  • Added Split-Screen mode
  • Added 3 new themes besides the default theme.
  • Removed rarely used features
  • The updates will roll out in batches
