Leica makes its debut in India with a range of cameras, opens first store in Delhi
Germany based camera maker Leica has set foot into India with the aim to revolutionize high-end photography and compete with big players like Sony, Canon and Nikon.
It kicked of local operation by opening its first exclusive Camera AG partners store in Connaught Place, New Delhi. The store will work as 'destination centers', and not just point of sales.
The camera brand plans to open such stores in Mumbai and Bengaluru as well, and a total of five more over the next five years. The company also plans to partner with India's top designing and photography institutes to organize informational workshops to create brand awareness.
Leica also announced that it will be bringing its Leica S, SL, Q, M, V-Lux and D-Lux sereis of camera as well as accessories to the country. The SL range starts from Rs 4.65 lakhs, whereas the M10 range will start from 3 lakhs. The S range starts from 14 lakhs and the Lenses range starts from Rs 1.5 Lakhs. These products will be exclusively available at Leica partner store in Connaught Place.
For those unaware, Leica is an iconic camera brand and one of the most popular camera manufacturers world-wide. The camera technology used on Huawei's flagships P9, P10, P10 Plus, Mate 9, Mate 9 Pro, Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro are all designed and engineered by Leica. The company is also known for making the world's most expensive camera. In May 2012, the brand's O-series camera made in 1923 sold for 2.1 million euros, which is equivalent of whooping Rs. 16 crore.
